Hermann’s Show and Tell 3-3

In the early years of the war when the art of bombing was still in its infancy this simple mode of attacking people on the ground was devised. The pilot or observer would simply take a small bucket of flechettes onboard and harass some convenient target below. Apparently these were more effective against larger targets such as cavalry and I have read one report of an injury sustained with the flechette going straight through a German boot including the foot! The damaged flechette (at the top of the picture) was used by British Aircraft in Palestine against the Turks and the German engineers building the water supply (it was collected by one of the engineers it missed). The one in the middle is a bit of an irony. Designed in France made in Germany and presumably used by the French against the Germans….
