Despite a career in international shipping, Michael Drayton has strong family links with the RAF. His father was a fighter pilot in WW II flying Hurricanes and Spitfires and his father-in-law was a navigator on Mosquitoes. Indeed, a visit to The Imperial War Museum at Duxford will reveal a Rolls Royce Merlin engine on display in memory of his father. Michael’s career has been mainly City of London based although he was seconded to his Hong Kong office for a period of seven years in the 1980s. In 2007 he became Chairman of The Baltic Exchange, overseeing the worldwide commercial activities of international shipping while his ship-owning interests extended to his chairmanship of Arlington Tankers which was listed on the New York stock exchange. Reflecting his concern for the welfare of ship crews Michael is a trustee of the Sailors’ Society.
