Fokker DVII Has It’s Day

In the air, the war was even more intensive especially during September. Just six weeks from the Armistice, over 550 Allied aircraft fell, mostly to German Jasta pilots, many of them flying the Fokker DVII. It was their highest ever success rate against the enemy but the German air service was on the back foot. Unable to make up their losses and running short of vital resources, outgunned and outnumbered, defeat was inevitable. Last-ditch fighters like the Fokker E.V parasol monoplane made little impact; wing failures grounded the type and by the time strengthened versions appeared the war was virtually lost.
