Sunday 4th Sep 22 was a chance for the Shuttleworth Faithful to see our Albatros display for the first time despite arriving in England in 2018. Once again it was paired up with another icon of WW1, this time the Trust’s Nieuport 17. It was a chance to re-enact the eighth of 20 kills of Lt Kissinberth when he destroyed a Nieuport 17 in August 1917. The power of the Albatros against the manoeuvrability and climb rate of the Nieuport. The latter was much envied by the German High Command who ordered the Albatros to adopt the Nieuports V-strut configuration from the DIII onwards with frequently tragic consequences as they did not fully understand the limitations of the design.
