Come and join us at the WW1 Aviation Heritage Trust Fly In 15th/16th August 2015 at Stow Maries. As the beautiful video by Russell Savory shows the dawn patrol from the only surviving WW1 aerodrome with most of its buildings intact or planned for restoration is very much living history. The return of Stow Maries to its operational status in 1918 by 2018 is underway. Provided sponsors can be found Stow will have its own squadron of late model original totally authentic WW1 aircraft which have to be seen to be believed. The BE2e, an Albatros DVa, Sopwith Snipe with a Bentley BR2 rotary engine and an SE5a will all be flying on both days subject to weather and serviceability. There will be lots of opportunities for iconic photos with living RFC historians in the crowd to explain the dress and demands of flying the aircraft. On Saturday we will be joined by the JamPot Club – lots of vintage motor bikes. We are also expecting the Jowitt Club and TR Register. If your interests are more cerebral, Dr Ross Mahoney of the RAF Museum will be giving a talk on the role of Stow Maries in the air defence of England against the Zeppelin which together with the Gotha and Gaint bombers were responsible for more than 1000 deaths in England during the War.On Sunday all the entrants of the Layer Marney Cup – a rerun of the 1914 fuel economy competition – are being measured at Stow while the competitors have lunch. We hope that they may include some Edwardian vehicles normally associated with the London to Brighton Run.Also there is a magic lantern show in Sunday of Edwardian England and the impact of the war on the population as they would have seen it.
